Oregon has one of the lowest workers’ compensation costs in the nation, with a decreasing trend over the last several years driven by stable costs for lost wages and lower average medical care costs.

For Oregon manufacturers, the cost savings of workers’ compensation insurance can be substantial. In 2022, Oregon manufacturers paid $0.93/$100 of payroll compared to places like California ($2.26/$100 of payroll). As a result, a 50-person company relocating to Oregon could see a six-figure annual savings on this one cost factor alone.

Oregon workers’ compensation premium rates are ranked the 10th lowest in the nation, down four places from the previous study in 2020. Oregon fell in the ranking despite having a lower premium index rate, because rates in other states dropped more.
